Windows 7 runs on more than 45 percent of the desktop computers worldwide, and many of these systems are part of companies where upgrading to Windows 10 is a costly process that could involve more than the simple migration to a new operating system.

And because sticking with Windows 7 for a little bit longer is the only option, many of these enterprise customers are looking for security software to protect computers.

A new research conducted by AV-TEST reveals the best business antivirus products for Windows 7 SP1 64-bit at the moment, and at first glance, there’s almost no surprise this time.

Kaspersky once again the best solution

Just as before, Kaspersky’s products are topping the charts with the maximum of 18 points after protection, performance, and usability tests. This means the antivirus solutions developed by the Russian vendor performed nearly flawlessly in each of these tests.

Bitdefender’s enterprise solution also scored very well, but got 5.5 points in the usability test for a final score of 17.7 points, slightly behind Kaspersky. Symantec, Sophos, and Seqrite products were rewarded with 17 points for their performance, each of them losing 0.5 points in performance and usability tests.

And while the majority of enterprise security solutions actually had decent to impressive performance, not the same thing can be said about Microsoft’s, which once again was the last one in the charts. Microsoft’s security product got only 14 points, with 5 points for performance and protection, and only 4 points for usability.

This once again raises questions regarding the need for third-party antivirus protection on enterprise systems, especially because Windows 7 does not feature the same mitigation tech that’s currently integrated into Windows 10.

Support for Windows 7 is coming to an end in January 2020, so organizations still running this OS version should already start planning the migration to supported Windows to make sure computers in their networks are provided, with our without antivirus solutions.
