The (Sexy) Beauty and the (Aging) Beast

- Some good things do come to an end, others... not so much

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

Oh, my! Whatever happened to Michael Douglas? Well, as we all know, old age is not something to joke with or be taken lightly, for the very simple reason that no matter what we do, we'll all end up old, wrinkly and talking about cats and our grandchildren's latest tummy ache. Metaphorically speaking, I mean. But it's always a shock to discover the ravages of time on the faces of some of Hollywood's best loved actors, and from this point of view, Michael Douglas can be seen as being of "royal Hollywood descent".
Up until now, the actor managed to conceal his age with a little help from the proverbial nip&tuck and some cosmetics 101, but not anymore.

Douglas looks even more beaten and broken by the passage of time when put next to his lovely wife Katherine Zeta Jones, who – at 38 years old – claims she has yet to reach her "sexiest point". "I'm not going to be playing old grannies anytime soon. You see, I haven't actually reached my sexiest point yet", she stated, while out and about doing the promotional rounds for her new film "Death Defying Acts" in Australia. The stunning Welsh actress does admit that she's not a young vixen anymore, but says maturity can be even more sexy and appealing. "I'm too old to play the ingenue. I think it's just a natural progression", she added. "I'm 38 years old and I'm going to play more mums than sex symbols". However, when put next to her husband, Zeta-Jones looks more like a teenager than anything.

The truly funny part is that it has been claimed she is in fact also faking her own age – claiming to be 38 but in fact being 10 years older. Now, if that were true, then her good looks, fresh face and optimism are even more enviable. I mean, she could be taking the Demi Moore route, constantly complaining that older Hollywood actresses are discriminated and don't receive any viable offers for work. I must say, Catherine looks more alert and fresh-faced than even much younger Hollywood stars. The name Lindsay Lohan rings a bell? Well, kudos to Catherine for looking fabulous and working hard. Not much time left for complaining about life's misery, right?
