Windows 10 version 1507 to be retired on March 26

January 26 is the day when Microsoft officially starts the 60-day countdown towards the demise of the original Windows 10 version (1507) launched in July 2015.

As the company announced earlier this month, once updated media for Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update) becomes available on the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) on January 26, the initial OS version 1507 officially enters the last 60 days of active servicing for the Current Branch of Business (CBB).

This means that after March 26 this year, no updates would be released to computers running the original Windows 10 version, and everyone still running it is strongly recommended to update systems as soon as possible. The target is to bring everyone to Windows 10 Anniversary Update, especially because the company is getting ready to introduce another big update in April called Creators Update.

Microsoft is actively servicing only the latest two releases of Windows 10 for CBB, so once updated media for Windows 10 Creators Update becomes available, the November Update (also known as version 1511) would be retired as well.

New media already posted on VLSC

VLSC subscribers can already download the new ISOs after Microsoft published them only a few minutes ago, while systems where the latest cumulative updates have already been installed do not require any further action.

Microsoft declared Windows 10 Anniversary Update as Current Branch for Business in late November, after previously releasing it to consumers on August 2.

“This is an important milestone and signifies that this version has been validated by customers, OEMs and partners giving organizations the confidence to further accelerate deployments at scale,” Microsoft said at that point.

As far as the next OS update is concerned, Windows 10 is projected to get the Creators Update in April, and the company is expected to finalize work on new features anytime soon. The next few months until the release will be primarily focused on bug hunting to make sure the release is stable when it goes live for everyone.
