No one has even seen the new tablets, let alone get them

The UbuTab is a tablet that was supposed to ship with either Windows or Ubuntu, and had some pretty sweet hardware specs, including 1TB of storage space. As some of the users have suspected in the first place, this is very close to being confirmed as a scam.

A lot of users have expressed doubts regarding the existence of the UbuTab, and they were right to feel that way. The tablet had an Indiegogo campaign, which ended without the project getting all the money. The problem is that Indiegogo allows for a flexible campaign, which means that the project leader, in this case, Nikki Wertish, will still get whatever money managed to gather.

After the campaign in IndieGogo had ended, a website with UbuTab was released, allowing users to buy the tablet for quite some time. Even the Ubuntu devs said that they have no knowledge of the tablet or its implementation of the OS. It's true that a tablet can very well run the regular Ubuntu distro, but that's not what has been presented in the campaign.

UbuTab seems to have disappeared

As you can imagine, many users have considered this to be a scam, and it's now pretty likely that it's true. The website is gone and it can no longer be accessed, Nikki Wertish doesn't respond to email, people are complaining that they have not received a 32 GB USB stick that was promised around Christmas, and so on.

The last message from Nikki Wertish said that the new tablets have arrived from China, but that they weren't up to par. They are "working" with the manufacturer to send another batch.

"We are still a little bit behind in production. We were disappointed with the quality of the first batch of tablets from the manufacture. We do not feel they were of high enough quality to continue production of the current model. We are working with them to resolve the issues, and hope the next batch is up to our standards," Nikki said on Indieogo 15 days ago.

Things are not looking good for UbuTab, a tablet that at best will ship with Windows (oh, the irony) and a regular Ubuntu (not Ubuntu Touch).
