The mysterious Thargoids are officially returning to the Elite Dangerous universe on September 26, with the promise to challenge players in new and unique ways.

The Elite Dangerous universe is an empty one. The lore, story, and story are based on the fact that we are pretty much alone in the galaxy. The only semblances of alien life are the Thargoids, a race of creatures that seem to have died out a long time ago. It’s a much more realistic approach to the famous Drake equation.

Until now, people have been fighting among themselves, or they were just trying to make a living in a huge and mostly empty universe. Some explorers found remains of alien civilizations, but nothing more than that. The return of the Thargoids will change the dynamics of the power struggle in the quadrant.

Thargoids will shock players

There is little to no information about this alien race. A few players even met some ships in deep space, but no real details are known. Judging from the short CGI trailer presented, it seems that their ships can regenerate at a very fast pace, which will make things really interesting.

Frontier Developments says that the 2.4 update, dubbed “The Return” will continue to roll out with interactive narrative-based content. How will that content made available remains to be seen, but most likely it will be shipped in the form of community events, such as gather a resource, build a station, and so on.

On the other hand, it would be nice to be surprised by something new in Elite. Furthermore, The Return promises to shock the players, this being the reason behind the absence of information regarding the update.

If there’s any consolation, the galaxy in Elite Dangerous is a very big one, with more than 400 billion systems, so if you don’t want to meet the aliens, you probably won’t have to.
