Report claims it knows the date when pre-orders start

The iPhone 8 will be unveiled next week on September 12 as part of a press conference taking place at Apple’s new headquarters called Apple Park, and a new report today claims it knows the date when pre-orders for the new model will officially start.

German site Macerkopf says the iPhone 8 will become available for pre-order on September 15, which is the next Friday after the public unveiling.

And while this might be new information for some, it’s actually something that makes sense and which we predicted when the first rumors of a September 12 launch made the rounds.

Apple typically starts pre-orders for new iPhone models the first Friday after the public press event taking the wraps off the products, so the September 15 perfectly aligns with this approach. The company then keeps the pre-orders open for one week before it starts shipments of the device, in this case on September 22.

Limited iPhone 8 supply?

This means that the iPhone 8 will be introduced on September 12, while pre-orders will start three days later on September 15. Then, the device will go on sale on September 22, with the first customers who pre-ordered the model likely to receive it the same day.

The bigger question concerns the iPhone 8 supply. There’ve been several rumors that Apple was facing some supply issues with the iPhone 8, with Samsung unable to reach the yield rate that Cupertino requested.

People with knowledge of the matter indicated that the iPhone 8 would either be delayed or released in limited numbers, with the first scenario suggesting that only a small number of customers might be able to purchase the device after the September 12 launch. If all units are sold during the pre-order program, Apple might no longer have any other units in stores on September 22 when the device is supposed to hit the shelves.
