Redmond adds another 150 pounds to Surface Book price

Microsoft has quietly increased Surface Book prices in the United Kingdom as a result of the decline the British pound is recording following the Brexit vote, so Britons now have to pay more for the same laptop version than a week ago.

The software giant confirmed in a statement that it’s adjusting Surface Book pricing, and although the company hasn’t clearly mentioned it, other devices might receive similar price hikes for the same reason.

“In response to a recent review we are adjusting the British pound prices of some of our hardware and consumer software in order to align to market dynamics,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying by TechCrunch. “For indirect sales where our products and services are sold through partners, final prices will continue to be determined by them,” she added.

These increased prices are specifically targeting consumers and companies that do not have a volume licensing contract, Microsoft says. The firm recently announced price adjustments to several enterprise solutions because of the UK vote to leave the European Union.

Surface Book now £150 more expensive

As a result of the price increase, the most affordable Surface Book is now £150 more expensive than before, so customers have to pay £1,449, up from £1,299. As the cited source puts it, this represents an 11.5 percent increase for the base Surface Book model.

Microsoft isn’t the only company that increases prices for its products in the United Kingdom, and without a doubt, similar decisions for other devices could follow soon. The Surface Pro 4 could experience a price hike as well, although the firm is yet to confirm it for the time being.

The new price increases came into effect this week, so if you planned to buy a Surface Book laptop, there’s a good chance that you have to spend extra for the base model. Your only option is a third-party retailer for now, although most stores are likely to follow in Microsoft’s footsteps and increase prices very soon too.
