14 DAY TRIAL // German institute AV-TEST has performed a new series of tests to determine the best antivirus solution for Windows 10 business users.
As compared to research papers involving home user solutions, this particular session of testing was focused specifically on enterprise solutions running on Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update).
According to the test results, only two security solutions got the maximum score, namely Bitdefender Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Small Office Security. They both received 6 out of 6 points for protection, performance, and usability, with the final rating of 18 points.
Four security products included in the test achieved 17 points, including here Trend Micro Office Scan, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Seqrite Endpoint Security, and Kaspersky’s Endpoint Security.
The worst score was obtained by Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, which received only 14.5 points, with 5 for protection, 3.5 for performance, and 5 for usability.
In case you’re looking for Microsoft’s security solution, it received 15 points, so it’s not the best, but not the worst either. Microsoft scored 5 points for protection, 4 points for performance, and 6 points for usability.
Is third-party antivirus protection still needed?
While many people believe that the built-in Windows 10 security software is enough to remain protected, security firms seem to think otherwise, and tests like these seem to indicate that third-party solutions are still required to block malware and other threats spreading across the web.
Microsoft, on the other hand, is working on improving Windows 10 security not only by making the built-in security solutions more efficient, but also by implementing other protection systems that can block exploits and malware.
More recently, the company bragged about Windows 10 Anniversary Update’s zero-day mitigation technologies, as the operating system managed to block two zero-day exploits even though a patch wasn’t available.
If you do feel the need for third-party antivirus protection, today’s tests should help you determine which ones are the better choices, especially because the number of applications that promise to offer uncompromised protection is pretty big.
