14 DAY TRIAL // Google unveiled its two exciting smartphones last week and while pre-orders are live in multiple countries, the Pixel and Pixel XL will start shipping only next week. Specifically, the two phones are expected to be released on October 20, but at least one customer got his order sooner.
Telstra Australia reportedly sent a Pixel smartphone to one customer who pre-ordered it one week ahead of the official release. The lucky customer took to Reddit to talk about the smartphone that he had just received and to share some pictures taken with the Pixel.
The user also shared a video, unboxing pictures, images of the earbuds, and settings screenshots. Additionally, he included some features on the upcoming phones in his post.
Thus, we find out that the phone will come with ambient display, which only lights up the lockscreen when a new notification is received. Google Assistant starts with the OK Google command from the screen off, while the boot animation shows colored balls jumping over each other.
It seems that Telstra Australia didn’t install any applications on the Pixel phones, and the user says that there’s no indication on the box or the phone that it was purchased through an exclusive carrier.
Pixel and Pixel XL shipments officially start on October 20
Google Pixel comes with a 5-inch FHD AMOLED display and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It also has a 2,770mAh battery and comes with 4GB of RAM. Both devices have a 12.3MP rear camera, which Google says it’s the best smartphone camera ever.
In addition, they have an 8MP front camera and run Android 7.1 Nougat. Pixel XL has a 3,450mAh battery and the same amount of RAM. Both phones come with either 32GB or 128GB of internal storage.
It’s unclear if this Reddit user is the only one who received the phone earlier or if there are others, but this could potentially displease some of the other customers who pre-ordered a Pixel phone. Nonetheless, only a week is left until shipments will start arriving.
