Team Fortress 2, Valve's free-to-play first-person shooter, is still quite popular, and in order to repay the community, the studio has partnered with content creators for the Gun Mettle in-game event. The celebration lasts several months and brings weekly challenges that give out customized weapons. Free maps, taunts, and much more are also coming, alongside big changes.

Team Fortress 2 has been around for a long time, and while Valve's more recent projects, like Dota 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, are much more popular, many people still jump into the free-to-play shooter and have a great time with it.

Team Fortress 2 Gun Mettle event brings a lot of new things

After some interesting in-game updates and additions, a brand new campaign is coming to Team Fortress 2, in the form of the Gun Mettle one, according to the special website set up by Valve.

Unlike previous ones, the new event comes with a Campaign Pass that costs $6/€6 and offers fans the ability to complete weekly challenges called contracts. These come with regular challenges, such as performing an action while playing a certain class, but also bonus ones.

Completing such a challenge nets players an exclusive customized weapon or an unlockable weapon case. These new guns come with different paint jobs and rarity levels, just like in CS:GO, for example. Owners of the pass will also receive a special coin that tracks their performance and can be upgraded.

Lots of free things are also coming to TF2

Besides the aforementioned paid benefits, regular Team Fortress 2 players will also be able to enjoy, for free, four new maps, one coming from Valve, and three from community members. The aforementioned custom weapons drop on the ground once a player dies, and if you are in the same class, you can pick it up and use it until you also die.

New taunts, such as a Russian-style Kazotsky Kick or a Metal Gear Solid cardboard box are also coming for free.

Five fresh achievements and a huge amount of gameplay changes are also included. You can check out all the modifications in the changelog below.

Team Fortress 2 will receive the Gun Mettle update, which includes the aforementioned improvements as well as the new content, later today, July 2, for PC via Steam.
