Original heartbreak anthem girl makes cameo on 1989 Tour

Taylor Swift is currently on the road with her 1989 Tour and she’s making a habit of bringing celebrity friends up on stage with her on every stop. Her third night at the Staples Center was no different: Taylor was joined by Ellen DeGeneres, Natalie Maines and Alanis Morissette.

Ellen came dressed in a sparkly silver outfit that matched Taylor’s and they did some dance moves, while Maines sang with her “Goodbye Earl.” Alanis and Taylor did a cover of what the Internet is now calling the original breakup anthem, Alanis’ hit “You Oughta Know.”

A video of the full performance was available a few minutes ago but it’s been pulled on copyright violation grounds. We’re left with snippets, but they’re enough to confirm that the performance was an amazing one. The fans loved every second of it, singing along with the 2 stars up on stage and cheering very loudly at the end.

Lainey Gossip says that Taylor introduced Alanis by praising her for inspiring “a generation of confessional female singer-songwriters who all of a sudden felt like you could actually say these raw feelings that you had.”

She even went as far as to say that she would have never had the courage to be so honest in her music if it hadn’t been for Alanis, and especially for the song they would perform later, “probably inarguably the greatest breakup song of all-time.”
