Today, August 4, Matthias Klumpp was extremely happy to announce the release of the final version of his Tanglu 3 GNU/Linux distribution, dubbed Chromodoris Willani and based on the latest stable Debian GNU/Linux operating system.

According to Mr. Klumpp, the new Tanglu 3 distro comes with some of the latest and greatest GNU/Linux technologies, such as Linux kernel 4.0, system 224 init system and service manager, as well as the GNOME 3.16 and KDE Plasma 5.3 desktop environments. Also, Tanglu 3 now has an alternate installer to the legacy Debian-Installer installation method, the brand-new Calamares, which replaces the previous live-installer used for installing the distribution on a local disk drive.

Besides that, Tanglu 3 includes all the latest updates from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux software repositories as of August 4, 2015, and the Tanglu Core edition of the distribution received some updates as well, but it is still designed from the ground up to serve as a base for anyone attempting to create custom desktop installations of Tanglu 3 GNU/Linux.

"We are proud to announce the release of Tanglu 3 (Chromodoris willani) today," says Matthias Klumpp. "Thanks to everyone who contributed to this release! To Debian for the great work on the OS we base Tanglu on, the Kubuntu developers for sharing the work on building KDE Frameworks 5 packages with us, everyone who contributed patches, packages and bug reports, and last but not least to our users for the constructive feedback during the (longer than usual) Chromodoris release cycle."

Distributed as KDE and GNOME editions

Tanglu users are being informed that, while the GNOME edition of the distribution comes with the latest stable GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, it still includes some packages from the GNOME 3.14 release. On the other hand, the KDE edition of Tanglu 3 uses the latest KDE Plasma 5.3 desktop environment, replaces the Apper package manager tool with Muon Discover, and many other features from the Kubuntu and Debian KDE projects.

Download Tanglu 3 (Chromodoris Willani) GNOME and Tanglu 3 (Chromodoris Willani) KDE right now via Softpedia or directly from the distribution's website, where you will find Live DVD ISO images that include support for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures. Last but not least, the development cycle of Tanglu 4 (codename Dasyatis) will start at the end of the week.
