System76, the American hardware company behind those Ubuntu-powered laptops and desktop computers, has announced earlier today, October 26, that all of their users can now upgrade to the recently released Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system.

Therefore, if you are the proud owner of a System76 computer running Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) or a prior build, you can upgrade to Ubuntu 15.10 right now (jump directly to the upgrade instructions below if you're in a hurry). The company has just posted all the instructions needed for you to successfully upgrade your computer.

For those of you who are not in the loop, we want to inform you that Canonical unleashed the next major version of Ubuntu Linux, the Wily Werewolf (Ubuntu 15.10), last week, on October 22, 2015, a release that brings a new Linux kernel, updated applications, and lots of under-the-hood improvements.

"Ubuntu 15.10 is the latest release of Ubuntu. It brings usability improvements and faster system performance resulting in a more responsive desktop experience. Major open source applications are also updated including LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, and more," reads the announcement.

Here's how to upgrade your System76 PC to Ubuntu 15.10

Before starting the upgrade process, System76 recommends all users to get their hands on the latest Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system and write it on a USB or DVD media, just in case something bad happens during the upgrade. Also, it is very important that you make a backup of all the stuff that you care about.

To upgrade, read our How to Upgrade Ubuntu 15.04 to Ubuntu 15.10 tutorial. Be aware that the System76 repositories will be disabled during the upgrade process. If, at some point, you are being asked about the installation of grub_pc, please choose the "Install the Package Maintainer’s version" option.

Once the upgrade process is complete, you must install the System76 Driver, so open the Terminal app and paste the following lines of code, one by one, hitting the Enter key after each one.

code
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:system76-dev/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install system76-driver
Moreover, those of you who own a System76 PC with an Nvidia graphics card must install the System76 Nvidia driver too. For that, you have to run the following command in the Terminal app. After installation, reboot the machine!
code
sudo apt-get install system76-driver-nvidia
