The team wants to improve the initial setup experience

System76 informs the Linux community on the latest improvements they managed to implement in their Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS Linux operating system.

Before launching the first-ever release of Pop!_OS Linux, which is based on Canonical's latest Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system, System76 was still working hard on the new graphical installer for their distro, and now they promise to improve the installation and initial setup experience of Pop!_OS Linux.

They want to offer users a memorable experience, so during the next few months, they will focus on that sort of experience that would make users excited about using their computer. Of course, the installation process shouldn't take more than a few minutes on a modern computer, so there's nothing memorable about that.

But how you set up your computer is very important, and System76 will try their best to improve the user experience for the next release of Pop!_OS Linux, which will hit the streets in April 2018 based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver). They also fixed some visual glitches for the default Pop!_OS theme and home folder encryption.

Full HiDPI support coming soon to Pop!_OS Linux

Another area that System76 promises to improve is the HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) support, which is nearing completion soon. The company, which is specialized in the sale of laptops, desktops, and servers powered by Linux, is exceptionally proud of the work done so far in the HiDPI front, offering users a smooth HiDPI experience.

"The HiDPI work is a seminal project that we are extremely proud of as a company. When this work is complete, you will be able to have smooth experience with multiple monitors of different resolutions and have it do the right thing," wrote one of System76's engineers working on Pop!_OS Linux.

Meanwhile, they want more users to install Pop!_OS Linux on their personal computers, no matter if they were bought from System76 or not, and win some cool prizes if they try the distro for at least a week and give feedback on their experience. The contest is only eligible for users in the US, and you can find more details about it here.
