Pop!_OS Linux release to have separate ISO for the installer

System76 devs continue to work on the first release of their Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS Linux distro, which is expected to land on the same day as Canonical's Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system, on October 19, 2017.

As you're aware, System76 teamed up last month with elementary OS' devs to work on an all-new installer for Pop!_OS Linux, but it doesn't look like it will be ready for next month's release of the GNU/Linux distribution, but there will be a separate ISO available for those who want to test the installer, which will be implemented by default for the second release of the OS, based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

"Pop!_OS is targeting 18.04 by default for the new installer. We’ll have a separate 17.10 .iso for testing the installer at release October 19th. The .iso boots directly to a live session, request language, KB layout, install or try, installation drive, then installation progress. That’s it! We’ll add dual booting and advanced partitioning features down the road," reads System76's latest weekly report.

Here's what the Pop!_OS Linux installer looks like

Until System76 publishes an ISO image of its upcoming Pop!_OS Linux distro so you can test the new installer, they've provided us with a screenshot tour (attached below) if you're curious to see what it looks like. It's a "no frills" installer that will only take care of configuring basic aspects of the OS.

The user setting, however, will be carried by the GNOME Initial Setup tool. In the meantime, System76's devs are working on the Pop!_Theme, as they aim to create just the right contrast between background colors and text, as well as to maintain the hue within the Pop!_OS feel and add better contrast to the terminal colors. Stay tuned for more Pop!_OS Linux updates soon!
