The smartphones selling on the market today are too mainstream for you and you desire something more atypical? Well, Sweden-based startup Symetium might just have the right alternative for you, if you’re willing to fund them, that is.

The company is trying to raise $1.25 / €1.12 million on IndieGoGo in order to develop a high-end smartphone that can also act like a PC if docked. The team developing the idea seems to believe that smartphones should work more like PCs, allowing users to get more productive with them. Which begs the questions: what are tablets and hybrids for then?

But we ramble. Going back to the point, Symetium wants users to be able to use the phone as a PC by allowing it to connect to multiple screens simultaneously. The UI on board of the phone won’t get mirrored but will create a new interface on the larger screen, optimized for that particular form factor. Even while connected to other displays, the smartphone would still be operable.

What’s more, once in PC mode, the Symetium smartphone can go on to be used as a mouse / keyboard combo, so you won’t even need third-party accessories. The Symetium will run a customized version of Android Marshmallow.

Also, the specs that Symetium wants to embed into this phone are pretty great too. The phone should arrive with a 5-inch OLED display with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Under the hood, breathing life into the whole apparatus is a Snapdragon 820 processor working in combination with a whooping 6GB of RAM. The other day we also talked about the upcoming LeTV Le Max 2, which is also poised to arrive with 6GB of RAM on board, so it appears this standard will become quite common in high-end smartphones next year.

Phones will be offered with 64GB / 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The phone should also feature an advanced 24MP main camera plus a 5MP selfie shooter. The whole affair will rely on a 4,000mAh battery to keep everything on board going.

Now Symetium is currently gathering funds that will help it make the product a reality. The base version will start at $499 / €447, but only for a limited number of customers.

The normal price will be $699 / €626 for the 64GB model, while the 128GB will go on sale for $799 / €716. Lastly, the 256GB variant will be offered for $999 / €895. We’re told the device is expected to ship out July 2016.
