It happened in Australia just the other day

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, a criminal mastermind in Australia ended up driving his car into the waters of the Indian Ocean while on the run from the police.

Since cars that can turn into submarines in the blink of an eye haven't yet hit the market, the suspect was left stranded. Authorities caught up to him and handcuffed him.

Probably the weirdest chase ever

Reports say it all happened on Yanchep Beach, just north of the city of Perth in Western Australia. The man, whose identity hasn't yet been disclosed, is said to have stolen the car he drove into the Indian Ocean, a Toyota Landcruiser.

Before heading straight into the waves, he drove around for a couple of hours, the police trailing him. Apparently, the suspect hoped he would lose the law enforcement officers following him while driving through sand dunes.

However, this didn't happen. What happened was that the man took a wrong turn and found himself on the beach. Since authorities were still after him and he had no intention to give himself up, he drove the car into the nearby ocean.

Unfortunately, he still got caught

By the looks of it, the man was followed into the ocean by two officers who swam up to him and took him into custody. As for the stolen car, it too was recovered from the water.

To be perfectly honest, one has to applaud this man's ingenuity. After all, it's not often that the police have to go looking for suspects in the ocean and battle high waves to get to them and arrest them.

Then again, this doesn't change the fact that, looking back, this little stunt wasn't exactly what they call bright. Impressive, yes. Smart, not so much.

Even if the police hadn't followed him into the water, it's not like the man couldn kept going all the way to Indonesia and seek refuge there.
