SUSE has recently announced that the fourth SP (Service Pack) update for its SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system is now available for download for existing customers, as well as on public cloud providers like Microsoft Azure, HP Helion, Amazon EC2, and Google Compute Engine.

Thanks to the numerous scalability improvements implemented in the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 update, customers will now be able to run large-scale workloads like in-memory databases. The new update brings support for Intel Xeon Processor E7-8800/4800 v3 product families, IBM POWER8, as well as IBM z13 hardware architectures.

Additionally, the fourth Service Pack of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 introduces faster boot time and reduces planned downtime by enhancing target large-scale workloads. It also promises more efficient memory management, as well as better manageability and performance for the Btrfs file system.

"SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Service Pack 4 enhances today's infrastructure and prepares customers for tomorrow's challenges," says George Shi, SUSE Linux Enterprise product marketing manager. "With applications from more than 4,000 independent software vendors certified on the platform, the 19,000 customers who trust SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 will also benefit from the up to seven additional years of support with SP4."

The high availability clustering stack has been updated

Some of the main components distributed in the high availability clustering stack of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system have been updated in the SP4 maintenance release, including ReaR, Booth, and Pacemaker, to the versions available in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12, allowing customers to intensify service availability for their mission-critical workloads.

Last but not least, the SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension has been updated as well in the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 release, which is available for download as an evaluation copy to everyone at http://www.suse.com/products/server/download. More details can be found on the official website of the project, as well as on the press release attached at the end of the article.
