On October 8, SUSE had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) operating system for SAP Applications on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-computing platform.

After announcing the release of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system for SAP Apps on IBM Power Systems back in August 2015, now SUSE is proud to inform their customers that their powerful server-oriented OS is currently supported on AWS (Amazon Web Services), providing them with the ability to use their existing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications subscriptions for the development and testing of SAP workloads on Amazon Web Services (AWS) via the company's state-of-the-art "bring-your-own-subscription" program.

"This solution gives customers the ability to run SAP workloads on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on AWS for development and testing while providing fast, flexible access to the AWS Cloud," says Naji Almahmoud, Head of Global Business Development for SUSE. "AWS provides the on-demand, highly reliable and scalable cloud computing services that meet the evolving needs of our customers. Working with AWS, SUSE is committed to providing expanded and better alternatives to help enterprise customers be successful."

SLES is the recommended OS for SAP HANA

The addition of support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) comes as big news for all SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications subscribers, as they will now be able to benefit from the flexibility of the AWS infrastructure, which promises to match their needs on time for SAP (Systems Applications and Products) solutions. Additionally, there's now a TP (Technical Preview) of the high-availability resource agents that can be used to deploy the SAP HANA platform.

In the press release, SUSE also notes that their SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications operating system is the supported and recommend OS for the SAP HANA platform. The latest version of the SLES for SAP Apps OS is based on the SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 operating system. SUSE customers are being informed that they will now be able to transfer their existing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications subscriptions to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform via an online enrollment.
