14 DAY TRIAL // We’ve known for a while that a successor to the Surface Pro 4 was coming, and a recently-spotted reference to the device seems to confirm that the device is real.
And now an alleged photo of the Surface Pro 5 seems to be making the rounds, after it was discovered on a French website belonging to Microsoft.
The photo that you can see at the end of the article is called “Surface Pro 5” and was posted on the French version of Microsoft’s website in the news section. It was found by Tero Alhonen a few hours ago.
And while at first glance some people might be tempted to believe that Microsoft accidentally leaked the Surface Pro 5, this is most likely just a typo in the file name, as it looks exactly like the Surface Pro 4 - check out the comparison below to see both models side by side.
Furthermore, the photo was posted in November last year, so we really doubt someone at Microsoft posted the picture online and the company didn’t pull it until now if it was really the Surface Pro 5.
The real Surface Pro 5
As for the real deal, nothing is known at this point, although it makes sense for the Surface Pro 5 to come with upgraded specs, including more storage, more RAM, a newer CPU (probably Kaby Lake), 4K displays, and improved Surface Pen. At the same time, the Surface Pro 5 could feature an improved design, as Microsoft is aiming to make it lighter than before.
The Surface Pro 5 should see daylight in the spring, likely alongside the second-generation Surface Book laptop, also getting its own share of hardware improvements.
Both projects, however, are not yet official, but expect more information to emerge in the coming months as we get closer to the rumored launch date. There’s a good chance that Microsoft will introduce the new Surface models together with the Windows 10 Creators Update in April.
