Announced with much fanfare at Apple’s iPhone 7 unveiling, Nintendo’s Super Mario Run is now available for iPhone from the App Store.

Super Mario Run is a modern interpretation of the classic Super Mario game, and it’s essentially a set-pace side-scroller where you need to simply tap the screen to avoid obstacles and collect coins. The game was developed from the very beginning to be able to play one-handed, but at the same time, to retain the original fun that made Super Mario so popular.

It goes without saying that Nintendo wanted from the very beginning to offer a totally different experience from games based on the same approach, such as Temple Run or Flappy Bird, and there’s no doubt that the Super Mario legacy helped a lot in achieving this goal.

Works on both iPhone and iPad

The iOS version works on both iPhones and iPads and requires at least iOS 8.0 or later to be installed on your devices. The app is 205 MB in size and requires a permanent Internet connection to play.

Super Mario Run is offered free of charge on iOS, but you can only play a bunch of levels, and in order to get full access to the game, you need to pay $9.99 (price varies a little bit depending on market).

The game sports three different modes, namely World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder, each coming with its own features, as Nintendo itself explains in the App Store:

World Tour
Run and jump with style to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser’s clutches!
Travel through plains, caverns, haunted houses, airships, castles, and more...
You can clear 6 worlds filled with 24 brand-new courses designed for one-handed play!

Toad Rally
Show off Mario’s stylish moves, compete against your friends and challenge people from all over the world.
A challenge mode where the competition differs each time you play.
Compete against the stylish moves of other players for the highest score as you gather coins and get cheered on by a crowd of Toads. If you’re impressive enough, the Toads may even come live in your kingdom.
You can also perform stylish moves to fill up your gauge and launch into Coin Rush!
Kingdom Builder
Gather coins and Toads to build your very own kingdom.
Create your unique kingdom with buildings and decorations that you acquire with the help of Toads gathered in Toad Rally.
For what it’s worth, Super Mario Run is also coming to Android devices in 2017, but specifics in this regard are not yet available. There are also no plans for a PC version just yet.
