Remembering anything will always be harder when you're carrying a dictionary everywhere in your pocket

A study carried out by Kaspersky Lab and Opinion Matters shows what we all kind of knew by now, that the spread of mobile and digital storage devices has led to a decrease in the amount of crucial information our brains are remembering on a daily basis.

By making data easier to get to by always carrying it in our pockets, the human brain has slowly learned it's OK to forget it or avoid learning it all together.

People will barely remember a few phone numbers nowadays

The most obvious problem is with phone numbers, which most people nowadays barely remember, even for their own phones in some cases.

According to the Kaspersky Lab research, 71% of all respondents across the UK cannot remember their children's phone numbers, 57% can't remember the phone number of their place of work, and 49% can't remember their spouse's telephone.

Ironically, 47% of all respondents have acknowledged they do remember their childhood's home phone number, learned in a period when there were no smartphones (or mobile phones for that matter), or their parents wouldn't allow them to have a smartphone until they grew older.

Nobody protects their personal data, even if they deem it of prime importance

The same problem goes for other types of data, usually stored either on someone's phone or on cloud-based accounts.

53% of all survey takers said they keep almost everything on their smartphones, and from that range, 44% of all women respondents said they would feel very "sad" if something would happen to their phone's memory, while 25% would go in "panic mode" right away.

The same study also showed how constant Internet connectivity has made sloths of us all, with 79.5% of all Europeans relying on it to carry out basic facts discovery, for small tidbits of information that should be in most cases part of our general knowledge.
