The development team at Capcom working on Street Fighter V is announcing that it will be using an entirely new set of ideas for the post-launch support of the coming fighting game, basically offering all gamers access to all content for free as long as they are willing to engage with the title in the long term.

The official Capcom Unity announcement explains that "Street Fighter V will be the first iteration in the franchise where it is possible for dedicated players to earn all gameplay related content (such as characters) for free, simply by playing the game. Long gone are the days of forced Super and Ultra upgrades!"

Capcom also says that 15 fighters will be part of Street Fighter V when it is launched, with four of them entirely new to the franchise and created to offer a new game experience.

It's unclear whether post-launch additions will also mix classic and new designs or whether the development team is planning to only deliver classics to make sure that long-term fans are satisfied.

Capcom admits that its former post-launch development support for the series has been lacking and forced gamers to go through costly upgrades if they wanted to keep up with the competitive scene, something that tended to limit its appeal.

Street Fighter V aims to stay competitive in the long term

There are two new types of currency that gamers will be able to use in order to get the content they are interested in.

Fight Money in Street Fighter V is designed to be earned as the fighting game is being played, and each gamer will have to decide how they want to spend it on launched characters.

Zenny is a premium currency that can be purchased with real-world money by those who want to have immediate access even if they do not have time to actually play.

The beta process for Street Fighter V will be used to tweak the economy and see how the two will interact with each other.

Capcom wants to make sure that its coming fighting game will remain interesting for a long time and will also retain a solid player base.

Street Fighter V will be out on the PC and the PlayStation 4 at some point in March 2015.
