The company fixed the bug in the meantime

New users can purchase Windows 10 Home for $119.99 and the Pro version for $199.99, but because of a bug in the store that was spotted by some users last month, the latter could be bought for no less than $2 straight from Microsoft.

Although at that time it all seemed too good to be true, users who attempted to purchase the operating system claimed the process worked flawlessly, but back then it wasn’t clear if Microsoft planned to activate those licenses or not when Windows 10 goes live.

Now that the Windows 10 has launched and Microsoft has started activating copies of the operating system, it turns out that those who purchase it for just two dollars are also getting a fully activated install, as Microsoft reportedly validates all of them despite the bug.

Microsoft offering support to activate $2 copies

Chinese website ITHome reports that a number of users who purchased Windows 10 with the $2 bug attempted to contact Microsoft because activation didn’t work, and the company in return helped them make this process possible. Neowin also claims that a number of users managed to get the new software for only two bucks straight from Microsoft’s Windows Store.

What’s more, if activation wasn’t possible at that moment because of server load (Windows 7 and 8.1 upgraders also experienced activation problems because of the huge number of PCs attempting to connect to Microsoft servers following the July 29 launch), the company asked users to contact support staff once again in approximately 30 days to offer a new workaround.

Right now, it’s not yet clear how many users actually purchased Windows 10 with the $2 bug, but this was pretty much the most affordable version of the operating system for new users.

If you’re wondering, the bug is no longer there, so if you want to get a license of Windows 10 for only two dollars, you can’t. The best option right now is to get an old Windows 7 or 8.1 license and benefit from the free upgrade offer to Windows 10.
