Rapper does Only in Monroe to promote “Southpaw”

Stephen Colbert hosted Only in Monroe, the local public access show from Monroe, Michigan, and featured a young rapper from Michigan, Marshall Mathers. During the interview, he taught young Marshall a very important life lesson about having a backup plan, he questioned him about the use of profanity in rap music and he felt him up to see if he was “jacked.”

Colbert famously never breaks character, and as you can see in the video below, Eminem (for he was the “young” rapper) almost managed to keep up. He comes in at the 22-minute mark, but if you have 41 minutes to spare, I recommend watching the whole thing because it’s hilarious.

Eminem has done this kind of weird spoof interviews before, most famously in the movie “The Interview,” where he appeared as himself and came out as gay on James Franco’s TV show.

In a way, he’s got the experience for it, but even so, it was a bit hard for him not to crack up when Colbert was acting up. At one point, you can see a seemingly confused Eminem put his fist to his mouth to hide the fact that he can’t stop from laughing.

For the rest of the chat though, he does a beautiful job at playing along and feigning confusion. He can’t believe that Colbert doesn’t know him or take him for his word that he has a solid career that actually pays the rent. He is shocked that Colbert won’t let him perform citing time, and that he can’t say Jake Gyllenhaal’s name right.

Sure enough, Eminem doesn’t do interviews as often as his fans would like him to, but it’s hilarious videos like this one, pure comedy cold, that make the long wait worth it. Enjoy!
