Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffais just dropped the news a few moments ago via a tweet that SteamVR Home now offers experimental support for Linux-based and SteamOS machines.

The experimental SteamOS/Linux support was added as part of the latest SteamVR Beta update released today, which introduces quite a bunch of feature refinements and bug fixes to improve SteamVR and SteamVR Home, both of which are currently in Beta testing.

For those unfamiliar with SteamVR Home, it's Valve's latest piece of technology, announced last week, which tries to implement a richer version of Steam Client's desktop interface that offers functional social interaction between you and your friends using SteamVR. SteamVR Home is enabled when you opt into SteamVR Beta.

"Ever since SteamVR was released last year, we've been steadily adding ways to customize the launch area (where players start when starting up SteamVR). It's been exciting to see the creativity of the community in the diverse environments and backgrounds submitted to the SteamVR Workshop so far," said Valve.

Best of all, SteamVR Home is compatible with almost any VR (Virtual Reality) headset, Steam Controller, Oculus Touch controllers, as well as most gamepads. What's new in SteamVR Home latest Beta update

Besides implementing initial support for Linux and SteamOS platforms, today's SteamVR Beta update is all about improving SteamVR Home, which received a "Peanut Gallery" environment that features not one but four new quest items to unlock, and the ability to sort the list of rooms by friends-only, the number of friends in a room, and number of players in a room.

SteamVR Home Settings was also updated and it now features a new "Reset Position" button that lets users reset their SteamVR environment to be on par with the player's tracked space, global min and max scale sizes for items and props, and support for bringing the SteamVR's environment background to default setting via a new button in the Backgrounds tab. Check out the full release notes for the bug fixes.
