SteamOS brewmaster update 2.83 was pushed to brewmaster_beta

Today, June 29, 2016, Valve's engineers working on the SteamOS gaming operating system based on the stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" distribution have released a new Beta update.

SteamOS Brewmaster update 2.83 is now available for early adopters, it was pushed to the brewmaster_beta, and it comes one month after the release of the previous Beta version, SteamOS 2.80, to enhance both the Nvidia and AMD Radeon graphics drivers.

According to the release notes, SteamOS 2.83 Beta arrives now with the second Release Candidate (RC2) of the AMD Radeon AMD GPU-PRO graphics driver, which includes support for the Vulkan API, and the latest long-lived Nvidia 367.27 video driver.

SteamOS 2.0 build 83 was generated on June 28, 2016, it incorporates many security updates from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" software repositories, and it also fixes some of the issues reported by users since the SteamOS 2.0 build 80 updates.

Among the packages that received new versions, we can mention the p7zip archiving utility, VLC Media Player video player, dpkg package manager, Evince document viewer, as well as the libxslt, libgd2, libksba, libxml2, Perl, and expat libraries.

Additionally, the LVM2 userspace toolset that provides logical volume management (LVM) support was updated as well to fix a bug, some regressions were patched in the Samba packages, and a possible database corruption was resolved in xapian-core.

SteamOS 2.83 Beta now ready for download and testing

As mentioned before, the SteamOS 2.83 Beta update was pushed to the brewmaster_beta channel, so you can already fetch it from there are install it on your computer or Steam Machine gaming console.
