The team at Valve working on the Steam digital distribution system is announcing that gamers can now get a wide range of video games for the PC with major price cuts attached in the Winter Sale, which is running on the platform until 10 AM Pacific Time on January 4 of 2016.

The highlights of the first day include reductions for franchises including The Witcher, including this year's major release Wild Hunt, The Elder Scrolls, Tropico, Heroes of Might and Magic and Civilization.

Individual titles like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Killing Floor 2, Gone Home, STALKER, and many more.

Gamers can also get access to exclusive Trading Cards for Steam each day during the Winter Sale by exploring their discovery queue, which Valve believes will allow them to uncover hidden gems and expand the range of video games that they are willing to buy and try out in the coming days.

For the first time, the company has also created a special comic for the occasion, called Gingerbread Jake In: North Pole Noir, which will reveal a new page each day to show players a customized story linked to the event.

New video games will receive price cuts each day, and given the track records of the Winter Sale, Valve will probably offer an encore day during which players will be able to get access to titles that they might have missed the first time that they were offered with a big price cut attached.

Some gamers might be disappointed that the company is not offering an entirely new video game to keep gamers entertained during Christmas and New Year's Eve, but it seems that the company is focusing more on actual deals that on side show entertainment.

Steam dominates PC gaming

Despite the fact that the digital distribution market is getting crowded, the Valve created service is still in the leader's seat, used by most major releases that are coming to the PC.

Recently the company announced that it was introducing two-factor authentication for all trades that gamers try to execute to limit the impact of account hacks, which are affecting more than 70,000 gamers every month.

This year Valve also announced that it was instituting a new return policy for video games that allows players to get a refund for all the titles that do not work on their computers, which is a good move given the issues that a space of launches, from Fallout 4 to Just Cause 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, have been experiencing even after a lot of patches.

The Greenlight system continues to allow indie titles to get on the official store, and the company has also recently launched its long-awaited Steam Controller and dedicated gaming machines created by partner companies.

For 2016 Valve is planning to launch the Vive virtual reality platform in collaboration with HTC, although until now no official date for it and no price have been announced, and the device was delayed after initially being set to arrive before the end of this year.
