A new Steam sale is being planned for the end of 2015, and it looks like PayPal has blown the whistle on this one.

Valve has been doing Steam sales for years now, and most users already know what to expect and when to expect it. Nonetheless, some details always slip ahead of most of the sales, and information is leaked from various sources. For the Winter Sale, PayPal decided that it was an appropriate time to announce it now, a full week before it is scheduled to start.

Steam has a lot of partners, and PayPal is just one of them. Since Steam is one of their big sources of revenue, it makes sense for them to know beforehand that a Steam sale is incoming, so that they can make preparations. The fact that not everyone at PayPal knows how to keep a secret or an embargo is a different discussion altogether.

Winter Sale to arrive as planned

Details about the two Steam sales, for autumn and winter, were leaked a while back. It turns out that the date for the Autumn Sale was correct, so we don't have any reason to doubt that the Winter version won't be confirmed.

The guys over at shacknews.com noticed that PayPal posted a small add for Steam Winter Sale and marked December 22 as the start for the promotion.

Another piece of information that surfaced during the last leak was the fact that Steam won't have the famous Flash Sales, which brought the prices of the game even lower. Even so, it's likely that we'll again see most of the catalog of games discounted. The Autumn discount had more than 4,500 titles on offer.

It will also be interesting to see whether PayPal will help with the Steam sale with their own offer, as the ad is suggesting.
