Get your wallets ready and prepare for massive discounts

Information about the upcoming Steam Summer Sale has been leaked by PayPal UK in a recent tweet, and it looks like it’s happening in a couple of days.

PC gamers have a few major Steam sales every year to expect, and the one that's going on during the long summer months is one of the biggest. The dates for these sales are not supposed to leak, but it’s been a long time since a Steam Summer Sale caught us by surprise.

It’s also not the first time when a date that’s supposedly secret has been revealed by one of Valve’s partners, and it looks like PayPal is getting ahead of itself, divulging some information on Twitter.

The main reason why these dates are secret is pretty simple. Various deals and offers are always present on Steam, but the summer sales usually bring much bigger discounts. This means that people might postpone paying for a game when they know there’s a good chance of getting much cheaper in just a few weeks’ time.

It’s starting really soon

Information about the 2017 Summer Sale popped up a few weeks ago when someone posted on Redding a screenshot from a developer’s page about upcoming promotion dates. It stands to reason that developers are informed well ahead of time, and the summer is here, so it wasn’t a big stretch.

Any doubts about the Steam Summer Sale have been dissipated by a tweet from PayPal that announced its own promotion: get a £5($6.3) off from PayPal when you spend £20($25) at Steam. The tweet also reveals that the Steam Summer sale starts June 22, at 6 PM BST (5 PM GMT).

The only unknown right now is the format chosen by Valve. It’s been a while since we’ve had something new. It will most likely be some sort of contest that requires daily voting, but it would be interesting to see something that’s never been done until now.
