Redmond not planning a second wave either

Microsoft originally promised to release Windows 10 Mobile for all Windows Phone devices, but the plan has since changed, so only a few models are actually getting the upgrade.

With the company confirming that a second wave of Windows 10 Mobile releases is not planned, many Windows Phone users are left behind, and there’s little hope that they could ever receive the new operating system (without remaining part of the Insider program, of course).

And according to new stats collected by AdDuplex, “on a very quick count, roughly 50 percent of Windows Phone devices in use won’t be running Windows 10 Mobile any time soon.” Previously, we reported that nearly 40 percent of these models were likely to be left behind, but it turns out that the numbers are even higher, which makes the whole Windows 10 Mobile saga even worse.

“No impact on customer experience”

As for the reasons some Windows Phone models aren’t allowed to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft says it’s all because of the performance of the new operating system on these devices.

In the original announcement published earlier this week, the software giant explains that it wants to offer the best possible experience with Windows 10 Mobile, and given the bugs and crashes reported on some devices, the company had no other option than to keep them out of the rollout.

“As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience,” it said.

At this point, the only way to upgrade a device that’s not supported by Windows 10 Mobile is to install preview builds, but this is obviously a compromise that not everyone is willing to make.
