Replace the default Start menu with this app

The Start menu is back in Windows 10, but it’s still not looking and working like the one Windows 7, so third-party apps that can bring back the traditional UI and feel are still incredibly popular.

StartIsBack is one of the most advanced apps in this regard, and an update that has been released today comes with a really awesome new theme that makes the Start menu look way better than the default version integrated by Microsoft in the operating system.

Called “Plain10,” the new skin brings an all-flat UI to the Start menu and adopts design elements that are used by Microsoft in Windows 10, so this third-party Start menu blends perfectly into the operating system.

As you can see in these screenshots, the resulting Start menu gets closer to the Windows 7 design despite the new theme, and all the familiar elements are there, which should make it easier to use for all adopters.

The live tile saga

In Windows 10, the biggest problem with the Start menu is probably the addition of live tiles, which, according to many users, are a useless feature that only takes space in the menu. The live tiles are borrowed from the Windows 8 Start screen and are supposed to provide you with a dynamic way to get information without actually opening the apps.

Live tiles can display some info, such as the weather forecast, without the need to open the apps, and this made them one of the key features of the Windows 8 Start screen.

In the meantime, it’s good to see that third-party Start menu apps keep improving despite the fact that Microsoft itself brought its own feature back in Windows 10. So leaving Microsoft’s Start menu aside, this little app is really worth a try, so just go ahead and download StartIsBack for Windows 10 and experience a more familiar way to launch your apps from the desktop.
