Video game developer DICE is gearing up to announce a new game mode for Star Wars: Battlefront soon and it seems that gamers will be able to get details on an experience that is based around the iconic X-Wing the Rebels use in battle.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of Electronic Arts that deals with the franchise and is accompanied by a relatively suggestive image.

DICE and the publisher are not saying when the reveal of the new game mode will be made, although the Gamescom event that runs in Cologne, Germany, this weekend is a natural opportunity to show off the core mechanics and to even allow players to engage with it.

The studio has already said that it will not include any space-based combat in Star Wars: Battlefront, so the X-Wings will probably be contained to the atmosphere of the various planets on which the game will take place.

Fans are speculating that this might be an asymmetric experience in which one team will be able to fly the Rebel strike craft while the Imperials will have to find ways to take them down as efficiently as possible.

It's also possible that DICE is preparing a vehicle-only mode for the game.

Star Wars: Battlefront needs more focused experiences

During the previous week, the developers revealed a massive 10 versus 10 team deathmatch mode, and it's very possible that the new X-Wing-based experience will have a smaller scale and will appeal to gamers who want more focused action.

A leak from the spring suggests that there are at least five more modes for Star Wars: Battlefront that DICE should reveal before the game launches.

The coming shooter is designed to focus on the multiplayer experience, allowing gamers to fight as a team on a variety of planets mentioned in the original movie trilogy, with heroes like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader present to turn the tide of an engagement.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be out on November 17 in North America and three days later in Europe, playable on the PC, the Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4.

On December 1, those who placed a pre-order will get the Battle of Jakku downloadable content pack, which is based on the new The Force Awakens, while the rest of the community will have to wait for it for another week.
