Eight-player teams will fight in ten-minute matches

Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are ready to reveal an all-new mode for Star Wars: Battlefront, called Drop Zone, which is designed to offer an experience similar to the classic King of the Hill of other shooters.

The game mode is centered on drop pods that fall through the atmosphere, with eight players on each team trying to quickly find them and secure the ground around them.

Each needs to be claimed and both sides in Star Wars: Battlefront will seek to hold five of the pods at the same time or a majority after the 10 minutes of match time are up.

Gamers who can secure one will also get access to a power pickup.

DICE says that the mode is designed to keep gamers constantly moving and fighting, finding ways to use a limited number of players to secure as many of the objectives as possible.

Dennis Brannvall, a lead level designer, states, "This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront. We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn't really pay off."

Drop Zone encourages quick thinking

DICE says that it has carefully created maps to support the mode, fine tuning locations and offering gamers the option to use both turrets and droids to secure objectives and gain victory.

Brannvall says that his favorite environment for Drop Zone is the Swamp Crash Site on Endor, which features interesting choke points and many open spaces.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be launched on November 17 of this year on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

DICE is offering a variety of game modes in order to make sure that the each member of the fan community finds at least one that it can play in the long-term.

A Battle of Jakku downloadable content pack for the game will be offered on December 1 for all those who place a pre-order and one week later for the entire player base, with content that is linked to the coming The Force Awakens movie.
