The development team at DICE has published a teaser image for the new game mode that it plans to announce this week for Star Wars: Battlefront, and it is now ready to deliver a short teaser video linked to it while revealing that the official name is Fighter Squadron.

The footage is very short, but it shows that gamers will be able to use a variety of flying hardware featured in the movie series, apparently with no ground action included at all.

The end of the video teaser for Fighter Squadron in Star Wars: Battlefront also suggests that the Star Destroyers that are present in the background on many of the levels will play a role.

DICE has already explained that no actual space battles will be included in the shooter, which probably means that they will act like the AT-ATs on the ground, units that can be taken down by the player but cannot be directly controlled.

It will be interesting to see how big the battlefields for Fighter Squadron will be and whether gamers will be restricted when it comes to the objectives of the mode.

DICE will deliver a full look at the experience on Wednesday, during its Gamescom press conference.

Star Wars: Battlefront has another four unrevealed modes

DICE has said that it wants its new shooter to be accessible to all fans of the movie and focused on offering a look at the major battles that were shown or mentioned in the initial trilogy.

The game needs to have a variety of modes because there's no single-player component to explore, and the cooperative experience seems relatively limited.

DICE has pledged to make the title as close to the movies as possible, using new technologies to create the maps and the various simulated items.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be out on November 17 in the United States and three days later in Europe and gamers can play it on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC.

DICE has already explained that it is delivering a first piece of downloadable content, called Battle of Jakku, in order to celebrate the launch of the new The Force Awakens movie, that arrives for those who pre-order it on December 1 and one week later for the rest of the fan community.
