Gamers can select the map before the system kicks in

Star Wars: Battlefront is one of the biggest launches of the fall and a video game that focuses exclusively on multiplayer action, which has made a lot of players wonder why the development team at DICE chose to introduce a matchmaking system that does not give gamers an option to simply browse for matches.

Niklas Fegraeus, who is a design director at the studio, tells PC Gamer that the decision was made in order to make sure that all matches are as fair and even as possible when it comes to team composition.

He explains, "We want all Star Wars fans to be able to play this game and have a good time, and in doing that, we want to make sure that whenever players jump in, they get matchmade to players of their own level, their own skill, so they can have fun and a fair playing field. That's a really important thing when it comes to the quality of experience for the wide audience of Star Wars fans out there."

Gamers will be able to specify which map they want to play in Star Wars: Battlefront, giving them at least some degree of choice, but the more hardcore of shooter fans will be disappointed that the computer will select the actual match for them.

The beta for the game is starting tomorrow and will give gamers access to three modes on three maps that show off all the core mechanics.

Star Wars: Battlefront will offer a wide variety of experiences

Fegraeus does link the simpler matchmaking to the fact that the game will have a more diverse audience than other more niche shooters.

DICE says that Star Wars: Battlefront will not provide the same level of complexity as the Battlefield series.

The focus will be instead on easy-to-learn modes that allow gamers to find a clear role and then have a lot of fun.

The company aims to take fans of the original movies to all the battles that were shown or mentioned by characters.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be out on November 17 on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, and gamers who pre-order it will get access to a free piece of downloadable content called Battle of Jakku on December 1, with the rest of the community able to play it one week later.
