The team at DICE might be working on extra content for the already launched Star Wars Battlefront, but it seems that the bulk of its resources is now focused on the creation of a new Battlefield video game, which might be slated to arrive in 2016 or 2017.

The official Twitter account of Dan Vanderlind, who is the development director for both projects, explains that he is also engaged with the coming title, although he is at the moment unwilling to offer any details about the nature of the shooter.

The announcement might be a sign that most, if not all the downloadable content for Star Wars Battlefront has already been created, even if the player base will receive access to it all through next year.

All the community can now take part in the Battle of Jakku, which offers a look at a defining engagement that shaped the universe of Star Wars as fans will experience in The Force Awakens later in the month, with a Super Star Destroyer featured on the biggest map.

DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have promised that the four major DLC deliveries for Battlefront will introduce four new heroes and villains as well as four unique modes and 16 maps for gamers to play with, all of them set on the already featured planets.

The studio also plans to deliver more Star Cards and more weapons and will introduce updates to Star Wars Battlefront to deal with any major bugs that the player base flags.

More titles associated with the series will be created in the future, presumably exploring the second trilogy of movies and the revival that J.J. Abrams is creating.

Battlefield is probably returning to the military theme

DICE is not yet willing to offer details about the game it is working on, but it's very likely that the series will return to its focus on military operations after it explored the war between criminals and police forces in Hardline, which was mainly developed by Visceral Games.

Given that Call of Duty has focused on future warfare for the last few installments, it would make sense of the company to deliver a contemporary experience that makes realism and complexity its core features.

DICE is still delivering regular updates for Battlefield 4, constantly tweaking weapons and game mechanics, which shows that there's a wide number of gamers who are interested in such a title.

The studio has a reputation for attention to detail and has always worked hard to create games that are both balanced and challenging.

Electronic Arts has confirmed that a Battlefield video game will be launched in the fall of next year on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

But given the complexity of modern game development, this installment in the series might be handled by another studio, with DICE seeking to deliver a title at some point in 2017.

Presumably more details about the new Battlefield will be offered during the spring of next year or during E3 2016 at the latest.
