Galaxy Note 5 vs. Galaxy Note 7 Specs Comparison

The highly anticipated Galaxy Note 7 has recently been released, and it has truly taken the market by storm with its advanced features and sleek design. The smartphone has been unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event and will go on sale on August 19.

Samsung has stated that users can enjoy some major enhancements with the Galaxy Note 7 as compared to its predecessor, the Note 5. To prove its point, the company has now released an infographic with a comparison between the two devices.

Perhaps the most obvious change in the Note series is the introduction of the dual-edge display, adopted from the Galaxy S series. Samsung understood that the curved screen on the Galaxy S7 edge and S6 edge was a strong selling point that came with added functionality. It was only suitable for the company to apply the same screen design on its newest flagship that it calls “the best yet.”

Furthermore, the Galaxy Note 7 sees the introduction of the iris scanner, which offers increased security even when accessing bank accounts or using Samsung Pay. Then, IP68 certification makes sure that users can perform tasks on the handset and not worry about water or dust affecting the device. The Note 7 can be submerged under 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

The Galaxy Note 7 is a bit lighter than its predecessor, and it weighs 169 grams while the Note 5 is heavier at 171 grams. Dimensions for the Note 5 are 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm while the Note 7 measures 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9 mm, which makes it a bit slimmer.

The display on the two devices is exactly the same: 5.7-inch Quad HD 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution with 518ppi, with the exception that the Note 7 comes with a dual-edge screen. Moving on to network capabilities, the Note 5 features LTE Cat.6 300,50 Mbps while the Note 7 has LTE Cat.9 and a speed of 450,50 Mbps.

The Galaxy Note 7 sees an improved battery capacity

Processor power was improved on the Note 7 as it packs a Snapdragon or Exynos 64 bit, 14 nm process octa-core 2.3 GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad. In addition, while the Note 7's 5MP camera comes with an f1.7 aperture on the front, the 5MP unit on Note 6 features an f1.9 aperture.

The Note 7 sports a dual pixel 12MP rear camera with f1.7 aperture and smart OIS, while the Note 5 has a 16MP back camera with f1.9 aperture. Battery capacity was upped on the Note 7, reaching 3,500mAh, and the phone comes with USB Type-C, a port that the Note 5 lacked.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, and Samsung has announced that it will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat when available. Pre-orders are already live, with the device to go on sale on August 19.
