The SparkyLinux developers were more than happy to inform us a few minutes ago about the immediate availability for download of the final release of their Debian-based SparkyLinux 4.0 distribution.

Dubbed Tyche and derived from the testing branch of Debian GNU/Linux (Debian 9 "Stretch"), SparkyLinux 4.0 arrives today, June 26, with multiple editions based on some of the most popular open-source desktop environments, including KDE, Xfce, MATE, LXDE, and LXQt.

Prominent features of SparkyLinux 4.0 include Linux kernel 4.0.5, complete system rebranding, beautiful artwork that consits of the "Sparky4" flat desktop theme and "Ultra-Flat-Icons" iconset, VLC Media Player as the default video player with Iceweasel plugin, and support for installing the distro on 32-bit computers with UEFI motherboards.

Moreover, Pulse Audio Mixer replaces Gnome-Alsamixer as the default volume manger in the LXDE and LXQt editions, a Pipelight repository has been added, the GNOME MPlayer, MPlayer2, and Gecko Player apps have been removed, and the Razor-Qt edition is no longer supported.

"I am happy to announce SparkyLinux 4.0 code name 'Tyche'. Sparky 4 is based on and fully compatible with Debian 9 testing 'Stretch'," says Paweł Pijanowski in the announcement. "The new iso images feature a set of applications for daily usage, wireless drivers, multimedia codecs and plugins, and they are available in a few flavors."
