OpenSignal, a company that specializes in wireless coverage mapping, has released an interesting report showing which countries have the fastest mobile networks. A chart posted on OpenSignal ranks countries from around the world based on the speed of 3G networks and above.

OpenSignal analyzed the speed of mobile networks in 95 countries, and 93 of them had 3G or better signal availability more than half of the time while the majority of them had availability greater than 75%. Some differences were recorded when it came to the average consumer data speeds. Thus, South Korea recorded the fastest overall speed of 41.3Mbps while Afghanistan recorded the slowest speed of just 2.2Mbps.

The dominant connection type is Wi-Fi, which isn't surprising, considering that wireless Internet connection is preferable to paid mobile data. The Netherlands recorded an interesting rate of 70% of all smartphone connections belonging to WiFi, although the country's 3G and 4G infrastructure is well developed.

South Korea records the fastest Internet speeds and the highest 3G/4G availability rate

South Korea has the fastest Internet speeds in WiFi and cellular connections, with 41.34Mbps on average, followed by Singapore, Hungary, and Australia. The United States ranks 38th with 12.34Mbps, well behind China with 17.95Mbps. India records a surprising speed of just 5.30Mbps, being at the bottom of the chart.

South Korea also leads the index with the highest 3G/4G availability rate of 98.54%, followed by Japan and Israel. The USA ranks 17th in this chart with 91.69% while China lags behind with 75.47%. India is surprisingly among the last as far as 3G/4G availability is concerned.

When it comes to time spent on WiFi, the Netherlands leads with 70.05%, followed by China and New Zealand. The United States of America records a 53.08% rate, lagging behind South Korea with 56.98%. Considering the low availability rate of 3G/4G networks, one would expect India to have a high rate of time spent on WiFi, but the country is yet again at the bottom of the chart with just 29.82%.
