A dark mode is one of the most requested feature for Android

A dark mode or night mode for Android is probably one of the most requested features for Google's mobile operating system, but it doesn't look like the search giant wants to implement it anytime soon.

Android users have been asking Google to add a dark mode to future Android releases since November 2017, stating that it could improved the battery life of their devices. Those who closely followed the request's thread on Google Issue Tracker noticed at the end of last week that Google marked it as "fixed" and ready to ship in a future Android release.

However, that's not the case, as Google immediately released a statement saying it was a miscommunication from an employee who prematurely closed the forum thread and marked it as resolved. "Unfortunately, this bug was closed prematurely due to a miscommunication with the team that handles AOSP issues," said Google in a statement for Android Police.

Google's says it won't add a Hot Dog Mode either

Google said in its statement to Android Police that future Android releases would come with a new developer option letting them toggle the -night UI mode qualifier to make it easier to create and test apps using a night mode. The company also added that "if it's any consolation, we will also not be adding Hot Dog Mode (where all UI elements are yellow and red)."

Most certainly that statement won't please any Android user out there, so until Google decides it's time to add a native dark mode or night mode to Android, our only hope right now is the automatic light/dark theme that's currently exclusive to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices, or you can always choose to use a third-party ROM that comes with a dark mode.
