Sony released the Xperia X series not long ago, and while the line provided a full range of devices with various specs, it seems that the company is also working on a new smartphone to expand its portfolio. Sony Xperia XR has thus recently leaked in press renders.

The smartphone would be the sixth handset that Sony releases in 2016, in an attempt to compete against major phone manufacturers on the market. Sony Xperia XR is apparently the Xperia F8331 that leaked in images a few weeks ago, but even so, the device hadn't received a name yet.

New press renders leaked by @onleaks reveal the smartphone's design and show the Xperia XR in its blue color variant. At this point, it isn't sure that the Xperia XR is its official name, but the leakster has also hinted at the TBC moniker.

Aside from this, the device will measure 146.4 x 71.9 x 8.1 mm, which means that it will be a bit larger than the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance but will have a 5.1-inch display with possible 1080p resolution.

Sony Xperia XR could have USB Type-C ports

Other than that, word is that the smartphone could come with USB Type-C port at the bottom and have a front-facing camera and a rear camera with dual LED flash. It is believed that the phone will let users shoot 4K videos while other phones in the series don't have this capability.

In addition, Xperia XR could run Snapdragon 820, coupled with an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM, together with 32GB of internal memory, possibly expandable with a microSD card. Rear camera capacity could reach 21MP, and a 12MP unit will be packed on the front. Last but not least, a 3.5mm headphone jack will be featured too.

Sony is said to announce the device at a press conference during IFA event, to be held in Berlin in early September. More information on this handset is bound to surface soon.
