The smartphone could be announced on January 4, 2017

Sony is expected to unveil a couple of products next month at Consumer Electronics Show (CES), as the Japanese company has already announced its press event will take place on January 4, 2017.

Unfortunately, it's unclear whether or not Sony will unveil any smartphones at the press event. It might have to save the announcement for the month after that when Mobile World Congress (MWC), another tech trade fair, is set to kick off.

Either way, we're happy to tell you that Sony will definitely launch new smartphones in Q1 2017, so it doesn't really matter whether it's CES or MWC where these devices will be announced.

One of the smartphones that are likely to be unveiled pretty soon is the successor of the Xperia XA, a mid-range Android handset that's been released on the market back in June after being revealed at MWC 2016 in February.

The unannounced device doesn't have a name yet, not even a codename, so we'll just have to wait for more info on this one. The same goes for the handset's spec sheet, which we know nothing of yet.

However, we do know that Xperia XA's successor will feature a USB Type-C port, as well as 3.5mm audio jack port. The renders published by OnLeaks and Slashleaks reveal a smartphone that sports a display with very thin bezels to the left and right.

Sadly, it appears that Sony has moved the bezels to the right and left sides, on top and bottom of the phone, so these parts are now wider than they should be.

If we were to guess, the Xperia XA successor is likely to sport a 5-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution, just like the original model. Also, the unannounced smartphones might measure 145 x 66.8 x 7.99mm.

Aside from that, there's nothing else we know about the upcoming Xperia XA successor, but we believe more details will leak in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
