Sony has just launched a new beta program that will allow owners of Xperia X Performance to test a pre-release version of Android 7.0 Nougat. The beta program is only available in a few countries in Europe, but not in the US.

Sony has released a beta program for owners of Xperia X Performance, offering them the chance to test a version of Android 7.0 Nougat before Google makes it official, according to XperiaBlog. The beta testing program is available only in a number of European countries, namely Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Iceland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.

Users from the US won't be able to join the program. Sony has announced that there are only a few spots available in the program, which means that those who wish to join the program should do so as soon as possible.

Sony's beta testing program will help users and developers communicate

Sony has stated that the beta program will open up a communications channel between users and developers so that the company can use their feedback to provide a seamless experience when the official Nougat version rolls out.

The beta program has been made available only to Xperia X Performance smartphones, but it's possible that Sony could include more devices in the program. Last year, Sony released another beta program for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but only for Xperia Z3 and Zperia Z3 Compact handsets in its portfolio.

Google is said to release the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat version in August or September, with the two new Nexus phones coming in the same period of time.

Xperia X Performance was unveiled in February of this year, and it's the most advanced smartphone in the Xperia X line. It comes with Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 23MP rear camera, and a 13MP unit on the front. The handset draws power from a 2,700mAh battery and has IP68 certification.
