The smartphone might not be released in North America

Although Sony has already unveiled the Xperia M5 last week, the Japanese company did not offer any details on the phone's pricing options.

Moreover, the handset maker has yet to announce where exactly the Xperia M5 will be available for purchase. The good news is online retailer ePrice has just confirmed the new smartphone launched by Sony will go on sale in Taiwan for around $400 (€362) outright.

While the price in Taiwan is usually lower than in other regions, we don't expect the Xperia M5 to be much more expensive in other international markets.

The price might seem high for a mid-range Android smartphone, but Sony calls it a “super mid-range” handset. Even so, if Xperia M5 is more expensive in other markets, the smartphone might not be as popular as Sony probably hopes it to be.

The high price is partly justified by the fact that this is Sony's first smartphone to be equipped with MediaTek's octa-core Helio X10 processor.

Apart from that, it's also worth mentioning that Xperia M5 is IP68-certified, which makes it dust proof and water resistant, in over 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

Impressive 21MP camera and 3GB of RAM

Sony Xperia M5 ships with the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

Furthermore, the smartphone packs 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Another strong point of the Xperia M5 is the 21.5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording, as well as the secondary 13-megapixel front-facing selfie camera.

It's also worth mentioning Sony Xperia M5 will be powered by a non-removable 2,600 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 670 hours of standby time or up to 12 hours of talk time.
