A few days ago, the yet-to-be-announced Sony Xperia C5 Ultra got unveiled in a user guide, hinting that its launch was imminent. The phone has been known in the rumor mill until now as Sony Lavender.

While most of the specs of the handset have been leaked online, we are yet to see the Xperia C5 Ultra make a debut in real life. But while we wait on the official announcement, we have an interesting story coming out of Brazil concerning the device.

It appears that a Sony Xperia C5 Ultra prototype got stolen from a certification forum on July 17, reports the Xperia Blog. The thief then tried to sell the “artefact” on an Ebay-like marketplace.

What makes the story interesting is that the prototype is worth a lot of money, around $12 million (€10.8 million) to be more specific, which covers the development costs of the device.

The prototype got returned to its rightful owner

Luckily, the Brazilian police managed to retrieve the device and bring it back safely. The phone got photographed by law enforcement, so once again, we get the confirmation that it will arrive with a sleek bezeless display.

Now, if you missed the earlier scoop on the Xperia C5 Ultra, we’re taking the opportunity to tell you a thing or two about Sony’s upcoming product. The handset will be placed in the mid-range category and will arrive with a 5.5-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution support.

On the inside, the device is very likely to take advantage of an octa-core MediaTek processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

We also know that the phone should come boasting a 13MP photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording on the back, and that the selfie shooter should be of the same variety. As we told you before, Sony Lavender is expected to be a selfie-phone, hence the super advanced camera living in the frontal area.

We don’t know exactly when Sony plans to unveil the Xperia C5 Ultra, but chances are the company will make an official announcement at the IFA 2015 trade show, which will take place in Berlin in September.
