It looks like Sony is not entirely content with the Xperia skin that's now installed on its Android smartphones and tablets. That's why the Japanese company is now looking to develop a brand-new concept for Android devices under its brand.

The information comes via XperiaBlog citing Swedish blog Swedroid. It looks like the testing for Sony's new Android concept is reserved to Swedish customers only, at least for the moment.

According to Sony Sweden, the new project is planned to start on July 27 and is expected to run until September 13. Keep in mind thought that the test program is open just for Sony Xperia Z3 customers in Sweden, so it will not support the “compact” model of Xperia Z3.

Sony also announced that after the trial period ends on September 13, all participants would be able to revert to their current Xperia software.

Back up your data if you want to participate

It's also worth mentioning that all the data, including personal settings, from the Xperia device will be lost when you start the trial and when you end it. This means that you will have to back up your personal data if you want to participate to the trial without losing your data.

But what exactly is this Android concept and what is Sony trying to accomplish with it? Well, here is the company's official statement on the matter:

“Sony’s Android concept’ is a new initiative for Sony users that have a passion for innovation and the latest technology. As a Sony user you have the opportunity to trial a new concept Android software build for Xperia Z3.

“The initiative is all about letting you – our users – evaluate the software, so we can acquire feedback to improve the experience based on what you like and what you don’t.”

If you plan to participate into the beta testing, then keep in mind that you will be running pre-release software, which means that you will probably find many bugs and issues.
