Yesterday, a leaked document revealed a comprehensive list of devices that are bound to get the hotly anticipated Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, arranged by manufacturer. In it, we found some references to a bunch of Sony devices, but the information came to us through unofficial means, so we couldn’t be 100% sure of its accuracy.

The good news is that Sony has stepped forward and officially confirmed the list of smartphones and tablets which are bound to receive the new build in the near future.

According to the company, owners of the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compat, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4 can expect to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon enough.

Will the Xperia Z1 get the update too?

As you can see, there’s no mention of the Xperia Z1, but yesterday’s leak suggested that an update for this model would be pushed at a later date, although we weren’t given any specifics. But since Sony did not list the model, we’ll have to assume that, for the time being, the update for the Xperia Z1 is not in the cards. Although changes to this schedule might occur along the line.

Sony didn’t provide a specific timeline for the Xperia range we’ve listed above, so we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that the Japanese tech giant won’t wait forever to deliver the latest Android build to its devices. The update is bound to include Sony’s own host of features, functionalities and improvements to help with enhancing the user experience.

As it usually happens with these rollouts, the update will arrive in stages and will depend on regions and carrier versions. Sony will keep providing us with updates related to the state of the rollout, so keep checking back to find out more information.

Other device makers like Motorola and HTC have also announced their preliminary lists of devices that will get the update. In the meanwhile, Android 6.0 has started going out to Nexus and Android One devices.
