Sony Xperia X to be released in select markets this month

Just a few days after releasing the Xperia XA Ultra, Sony is now focusing all of its attention on promoting other upcoming smartphones. The company has recently released a video that teases the SteadyShot stabilization feature on Xperia X and Xperia X Performance, with the latter expected to debut in July.

Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Performance will be unveiled about two months apart, but the two smartphones share many features and specs. They both come with 23MP rear cameras, but they don’t have optical image stabilization or OIS, a feature incorporated in many other high-end handsets, including Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the iPhone 6S.

In order to compensate for the lack of OIS, Sony has brought the SteadyShot feature on its upcoming devices in the Xperia X series. SteadyShot is supposed to produce the same results as OIS, and it can be used for stabilizing the image during a video or for snapping a picture.

The best way to explain SteadyShot is through a demonstrative video. Therefore, Sony has released one showing footage shot with the feature turned off and on. As expected, SteadyShot manages to stabilize the image, even if the footage was shot on a moving bike.

Xperia Z5 also came with SteadyShot video stabilization

However, smartphones aren’t the only devices that use SteadyShot. The image stabilization technology can also be found in Sony video camcorders, DSLR cameras, and other Xperia smartphones and tablets. The Xperia Z5 released in October last year also had SteadyShot incorporated in the camera. Last year, Sony also came up with a video to promote this feature on its flagship phone, and it seems that it has adopted the same strategy this time around.

Xperia X will pack a dual-core Snapdragon 650 processor clocked at 1.8GHz, 3GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB internal storage, depending on the variant. Xperia X Performance will have a more powerful processor, a dual-core Snapdragon 820 clocked at 2.15GHz, but the same amount of RAM.

Xperia X is expected to be released this month while Xperia X Performance should hit the market in July.
