The design is similar to Xperia X smartphones

Sony seems to be seriously considering discontinuing its mid-range Xperia C and M smartphone series, in favor of Xperia X and E. A few weeks ago, leaked slides from a Sony presentation showed that the company would be focusing solely on its Xperia X series, but now it appears that it will also launch a new Xperia E handset.

A month ago, a low-to-mid-end model carrying the code name F3311 was benchmarked, and the post revealed some specs and details on the upcoming device.

Sony seems to be ready to introduce the smartphone, as it has recently posted official images of the upcoming device on both Facebook and Twitter company accounts. The Facebook post describes the phone as “eager, effortless, and easy on the eye” while the Twitter post mentions that the Xperia E5 will be “your new, reliable assistant, available around the clock.”

The posts come with high-quality images of the handset, but they don’t reveal any information on the specs, availability, release date or even pricing. Still, it’s noticeable that the Xperia E5 follows some design guidelines from the Xperia X and XA, with visible differences between it and its predecessor, the Xperia  E4.

It could be launched on June 5

The Xperia E5 comes with relatively large screen bezels, sharper corners, and a rear camera positioned on the top-left corner. Sony didn’t implement the distinctive power button from the X series in the Xperia E5 but rather decided to go with a lower-key button placed on the side of the phone.

Rumors say that the Xperia E5 could feature a 4.6-inch display, quad-core MediaTek CPU, 1.5GB RAM, 13 and 5MP cams, and Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 included. If the rumors are confirmed, the Xperia E5 will definitely have more powerful cameras than the Xperia E4, which came with a 5MP rear camera and 2MP selfie snapper.

It also featured a large 5.0-inch display with a low resolution of just 540 x 960 pixels and a battery of 2300 mAh, which seems small but is satisfactory for an entry-level device.

Images show the date June 5 on the smartphone’s display, which indicates this as the when the Xperia E5 could be launched.
